I used to think that advertising a lineage in Reiki was elitist and snobbish. I no longer think that. I see so many ads now a days that advertise becoming a Reiki Master by receiving an attunement and training by video in a weekend.
I’ve been a Reiki Master for many years. Since 1997, in fact. I’ve had oodles of experiences that are not in the Reiki books. I’ve guided potential Reiki Masters personally over months of training. I can tell you that you are not a Reiki Master if you don’t have experience. Experience is the single most important training you will receive and you don’t get that by watching a video.
Reiki is a lineage that was passed down from it’s founder, Dr. Mikao Usui. He himself said it was a unique method of energy healing. He very carefully passed it down to 20 well trained Reiki Masters who, for the most part, kept it in Japan. In fact, it nearly disappeared in Japan after his death because the government forbid it. But a few of his students and their descendents continued Reiki to this day.
It was brought to the West by Mrs. Takata, a student of Dr. Hayashi’s, who was a direct student of Dr. Usui’s. From there, Reiki spread all over the world.
It’s a lineage to be proud of. I am sure proud of mine. Training is the basis of this lineage. In person training. So I think it’s very important to have your Reiki Master training in person, and to get a whole lot of experience before you call yourself “Reiki Master”. Check the lineage of your teachers. Make sure they have had real, in-person training too.
